History
Founded in 1979 by its founder José Cardoso, J. Cardoso, Lda had as its corporate purpose the exploitation of the hotel industry.
In November 1983, the Cardoso Group opened the first hotel unit, called Hotel Alto Lido, consisting of 118 rooms.
After a few years, more precisely in 1987, the Cardoso Group began the construction of a new hotel, called Hotel Baía Azul, with 215 rooms, which opened its doors to the public in November 1989.
Subsequently, the expansion of the Alto Lido Hotel, with 193 rooms and suites, was projected and executed, with the hotel having a total of 311 rooms, opening to the public in November 1998.
In March 2004, the company Ponte e Silva Lda., Owner of Ajuda Madeira Hotel, Hotel Unit with 91 rooms, located relatively close to the hotel units already belonging to J. Cardoso, Lda., Was acquired by the Cardoso Group. , a use of synergies for all hotels.
On July 27, 2009 the group brand "Cardoso Madeira Hotels" was launched.
In August 2009 the company changed its name to J. Cardoso, SA
In 2009, 118 rooms of the Hotel Alto Lido were refurbished.
On 01 March 2016 the Hotel Baía Azul reopens totally renovated.
Simultaneously with the reopening of the Hotel Baía Azul, the commercial name of the group was changed, being renamed "Grupo Cardoso".
On 23 April 2018 the Alto Lido Hotel reopens totally renovated with 315 rooms.
